Professor Dimitrios D. Theodarakopoulos was born in Athens (1948). His degrees include Diploma in Civil Engineering (1971) from the National University of Athens and Master of Science (1977) and Ph.D (1981) from the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Sheffield, England.

Since 1982 he has been working as member of the Academic staff and since 2004 he is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Patras. Dr Theodorakopoulos was employed as a visiting professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Glamorgan, Wales in 1987 (6 months) and at the University of Sheffield, England in 1995 (6 months).

He is the author or co-author of 29 articles in refereed international journals, 31 articles in referred international and national conference proceedings, 16 works of general scientific content and 10 technical reports. He has served as a member of research team or as the principal investigator of 13 research projects in Greece and European Union. He was awarded the ACI Design Award (2005). He has served as a referee of about 25 Journal and Conference Proceedings articles. His professional experience covers subjects in Highway Engineering and Pavement Design and Construction as well as subjects in the broader area of Civil Engineering.

His main research interests are in the areas of Dynamic Response of Pavements under moving loads, Transportation Infrastructure Management and Punching Shear Strength of Slabs.
