Ο Αθανάσιος Π. Χασιακός γεννήθηκε στην Άμφισσα το 1964. Είναι διπλωματούχος του Τμήματος Πολιτικών Μηχανικών του Εθνικού Μετσοβίου Πολυτεχνείου (1998) και κάτοχος πτυχίων Master of Science (1990) και Doctor of Philosophy (1992) από το University of Minnesota, Η.Π.Α. Το 1995 εξελέγη Λέκτορας στο Τμήμα Πολιτικών Μηχανικών του Πανεπιστημίου Πατρών όπου υπηρετεί μέχρι σήμερα σε θέση Αναπληρωτή  Καθηγητή. Είναι Διευθυντής του Εργαστηρίου Συγκοινωνιακών Έργων του Τμήματος Πολιτικών Μηχανικών.
  
  Είναι συγγραφέας δύο βιβλίων και άνω των 90 επιστημονικών δημοσιεύσεων σε διεθνή περιοδικά και πρακτικά συνεδρίων ενώ έχει συμμετάσχει και ως προσκεκλημένος ομιλητής σε διεθνή συνέδρια. Έχει συμμετάσχει ως κύριος ερευνητής ή επιστημονικός υπεύθυνος σε 15 ερευνητικά και τεχνικά προγράμματα που χρηματοδοτήθηκαν από φορείς της Ελλάδας και της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης.
  
  Είναι μέλος του Editorial Board των περιοδικών Advances in Engineering Software και Smart Infrastructure and Construction ενώ έχει συμμετάσχει στην επιστημονική επιτροπή πολλών επιστημονικών συνεδρίων. Είναι μέλος ελληνικών και διεθνών επιστημονικών και επαγγελματικών οργανισμών. Διατελεί κριτής επιστημονικών εργασιών σε άνω των 20 διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά Έχει βραβευθεί για τη διδακτορική του διατριβή και για δημοσιευμένες εργασίες του.
  
  Τα κύρια ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα είναι στις περιοχές: διαχείριση τεχνικών/οδικών έργων στον κύκλο ζωής τους, εφαρμογή τεχνολογιών πληροφορικής και επικοινωνιών και τεχνητής νοημοσύνης στη διαχείριση έργων, βελτιστοποίηση, έξυπνες πόλεις, υποδομές και κατασκευές, έξυπνα δίκτυα, διαχείριση ενέργειας και κινητικότητα, μοντελοποίηση κατασκευαστικών/λειτoυργικών πληροφοριών (ΒΙΜ και digital twins), εφαρμογή νέων υλικών (νανοϋλικών) σε οδοστρώματα, δυναμική ανάλυση απόκρισης οδοστρωμάτων σε κινούμενα φορτία, διαχείριση ασφάλειας στις κατασκευές.
