"Cone Model and Measured Dynamic Impedance Functions of Two Embedded Footings"

ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ

Dynamic impedance functions play a critical role in the analysis of soil-foundation interaction for structures subjected to dynamic forces such as generated from earthquakes, rotating or vibrating machinery, water waves, and wind. Several analytical and numerical techniques for computing impedance functions based upon elastodynamic theories are available. However, there are a very small number of studies documented in the literature in which dynamic impedance functions for shallow foundations have been determined in situ at sites in which the soil conditions and properties are well characterized. Herein, field data from experiments designed for impedance function measurement are presented. For the experiments, two square and embedded shallow foundations were dynamically loaded via four loading devices implemented in several configurations. The dynamic load and vibration responses of the foundations were measured via appropriate electronic instrumentation. Utilizing appropriate equations of motion and system parameters, and the measured load and vibration responses, dynamic impedance functions were backcalculated for the vertical, horizontal sliding, and rocking modes of vibration. Cone model predictions were then compared to the back-calculated impedance functions.
