ABSTRACT
This seminar presents a numerical multi – scale formulation of a model of dynamic analysis using conventional structural elements with empirical hysteretic properties and refined non-linear finite elements derived using a damage mechanics formulation, for the study of the seismic behaviour of reinforced concrete structures. Different variables which cause the nonlinear stress—strain response are considered in the definition of the constitutive behavior of the reinforced concrete in its evolution to collapse. Location of rebars and the interaction with the concrete bulk, adherence, is introduced in an explicit way when the new enriched finite elements, used to simulate the mechanical behavior of the composite reinforced concrete material are formulated. Since better models to evaluate the damage of reinforced concrete structures, under seismic conditions, are needed in engineering practice, a new multi—scale methodology is proposed to determine the capacity curve or the dynamic response of a structure both under seismic demand with the damage undergone by the structure, in its evolution to the collapse introduced by means of a cohesive model for the concrete and a concentrated plasticity hysteretic model for columns and beams. As illustration, the simplified static analysis based on evolutive modal spectral analysis and advanced sub—structuring concepts is presented.
